Eye Health Technology, Scarborough, ME

At Seacoast Vision Care, we use state-of-the-art technology to provide you with the best possible care. Whether you need new glasses or eye disease treatment, our eye doctors have got you covered.

Here are some of the advanced eye health technologies we use:

Digital retinal imaging

One of the technologies we use at Seacoast Vision Care is digital retinal imaging. This advanced tool takes high-resolution images of the back of your eye, including the retina and optic nerve. With these detailed images, we can detect early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. We can also monitor changes in your eye health over time, allowing us to provide personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs.

Optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) uses light waves to take cross-sectional pictures of your retina, allowing our eye doctor to view each of the retina’s distinctive layers. You may need an OCT scan for a variety of reasons, including monitoring the progression of a disease or checking OCT results against other test results. OCT can also be used to diagnose and manage diseases like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Visual field testing

At Seacoast Vision Care, we also perform visual field testing to assess your peripheral (or side) vision. This test helps us detect any blind spots in your visual field that may be a sign of underlying eye conditions like glaucoma. By performing this test on a regular basis, we can diagnose problems early on and prevent further vision loss.

Digital refraction system

If you’ve been to the eye doctor before, you may remember your doctor flipping through different lenses and asking, “Which is clearer, one or two?” This test is called a refraction, and it plays a crucial role in finding the right prescription for your glasses or contacts. With a digital refraction system, also known as a digital phoropter, this process is quicker and more accurate.

RightEye eye tracking technology

We use RightEye eye tracking technology as a part of our functional eye exams in Scarborough. This system captures detailed pictures of your eye movements multiple times (30-250) per second, providing us with valuable insights into how well your eyes work together. With a non-invasive, five-minute test, we can identify functional vision and brain health issues, determine the underlying cause of reading difficulties, and even enhance athletic performance.

Autorefractor

An autorefractor is another technology we use for the refraction test. It determines whether you are nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic based on how light enters and exits your eye. It is crucial to have this information when determining the correct prescription for glasses or contact lenses. It only takes a few seconds, so it’s great for children or people with special needs who may have trouble sitting calmly during a longer eye exam.
